The Morocco Adventure

Some experiences are thought to create psychological and physiological arousal by an exciting, unusual, bold, risky and uncertain undertaking termed adventure. It is a major pursuit of it in itself. An adventurer or adventuress is the one who believes in the existence of fun from risks in life; be it physical, financial or psychological for the recreation with excitement endured in the process. Travelling can be the most satisfying adventure involving exploration and tourism to remote, exotic as well as hostile areas by stepping out of one's own comfort zone.

Struck by Lonely Planet or Travelogues, Africa is place of deprivations but not when it comes to adventurous explorations. With every turn of the head, there is something new and exciting to venture out into being one of the many authentic destinations. It's second to Egypt as a North African holiday destination.

It is a constitutional monarchy located in the North Africa. The political capital of the country is "Rabat" with "Casablanca" being the largest city. It has always been known for its Islamic liberalism and openness towards the Western world. Morocco is a diverse place with culture and geography. Languages spoken here are Darija (Moroccan Arabic), French and Berber. Same way Moroccan literature is written in Arabic, Berber and French. Rock-influenced chaabi bands are widespread with trance music with historical origins in Muslim Sufi music.

The landscapes are a wild mix up of mountainous regions, calm coastal enclaves and barren deserts. Morocco borders Algeria to the east, Spain (through the Straits of Gibraltar) to the north and Mauritania with the Western Sahara to south. There is miserable climatic variation in the country. In the north, around Tangiers and the Rif Mountains; sunny and dry summers run from May to September. South experiences desert climate with very little rain, soaring temperatures during the day and sharp drops to cooler temperatures at night. During rainy season, The Atlantic coast receives rain and during winters, the High Atlas Mountains are blessed with snow.

There are frequent flights from most major European cities to Morocco and an option of overland travel through Europe via the Straits of Gibraltar. The infrastructure in Morocco is good with well serviced roads and public transport in the North as well as Central regions but further south the roads get narrower plus bumpier. The major cities of Morocco are Marrakech, Fès, Tangier, Casablanca and Rabat. Notable fact is that Morocco is the starting point for travelling all across Africa.

The country is divided into three natural regions. The fertile northern coastal plain along the Mediterranean contains Er Rif; the rich plateaus and lowlands lying between the Atlas Mountains. It extends in three parallel ranges from the Atlantic coast in the southwest to Algeria and the Mediterranean in the northeast. The semiarid area in southern and eastern Morocco merges into the Sahara Desert. Morocco has the most extensive river system in North Africa with most of the rivers flowing towards the Atlantic or Sahara. The Moulouya is an exception and flows to the Mediterranean. Principal rivers of the country are Oumer River, Sebou, Bou Regreg, Tensift, Draa, Sous, Ziz and Gheris. Its 1800 kilometers of coastline offers exhilarating waterborne and wind loving activities in this region. Seaside entertainments include surfing, kite surfing, wind surfing, Trekking, rafting, mountain biking, off-road driving are inland sources to boost up the adrenaline.

The best time to visit the place is the autumn as it marks the end of the Muslim period of fasting, Ramadan. Though the accommodation prices hike, it is the time to dive into the winding streets of the Fès medina or even snag you a wife at Imilchil's Berber Marriage festival. The warm days and cool nights of autumn offer a great deal with nature in Morocco. The High Atlas Mountains, the Anti-Atlas Mountains with volcanic Mt. Siroua, Mountain Jebel Toubkal (North Africa's highest peak), Rif Mountains in the north and the gorgeous Ameln Valley hold the major attraction for trekking destinations. Set beneath the peaks of the Rif Mountains with red-tiled roofs, bright blue buildings, and narrow lanes converging on a delightful square; "Chefchaouen" is one of the prettiest towns in Morocco. Avoid visiting the place in August due to the immense heat it tolerates at that time and the holy month of Ramadan when most of the restaurants will be shut during the day.

The currency utilized here is Dirham (Dh) with 8.15 Dirham equal to 1 US Dollar. The common phrases of communication with the Moroccans whose most cherished possession is their dignity are Ssalamu'lekum (hello, literally peace be upon you); Shukran Bezzef (thank you very much) and Insh'allah (God willing). Handshakes are the customary greeting between individuals but are somewhat weak according to western standards.

The people of Morocco are well-known for their warmth, hospitality and inhibition. It is very common to be showered with invitations for coffee or tea throughout one's stay. The cuisine of Morocco is rated among the best in the world and falls into two specific categories. The first category requires intensive supervision and the host do not participate in the preparations. No women are present and the male host merely oversees the banquet with his sons and servants. Men squat on mattresses or pillows around low and beautifully laid tables. A silver ewer of perfumed water is taken around and poured over three fingers of the right hand of each guest. The host claps his hands to begin the meal. One course after another and each delicacy is served until Chban (complete satiation) is achieved. To finish the Savor, silver ewer filled with warm water is presented to clean the mouth, lips and hands.

The meal is considered as a feast for the Gods which begins and ends with Bismillah (God's blessing). In the second category of cookery, the dishes are prepared with love and care by the mistresses of the homes (Dadas). She spends hours with her glazed earthenware with copper cooking dishes, her kanoun (the movable clay brazier) and the charcoal to perfume the kebabs which allows the sauces to simmer under its heat. A folded carpet serves as a seat. The Dada is dressed in a long colorful robe with the scents of coriander, cumin, saffron, marjoram and onion mingling with the pungency of olive oil as well as the sweetness of sandalwood, mint plus roses to delight the senses. The dinner starts with Bstilla, followed by the typical brochette or kebab flavored with bits of beef or lamb fat. Next comes the Tajine (chicken or meat in a spicy stew which has been simmered for many hours) served with a flat homemade bread called Khubz. In Morocco, as in most Arab lands; every household makes its own bread. After the Tajine, a Batinjaan Zalud (eggplant salad or chopped tomato salad) is served as a separate course. After this, Couscous Marrakesh, the marvelous Moroccan national dish made of semolina with each grain separate from the other is served. The dinner is completed with slices or wedges of peeled melon La Morocaine pastries made with honey and almond land finally a small glass of mint tea. The following dinner is a very much simplified version but it is delicious gives the "feel" of Morocco.

To know the high risk associated with the trip and avoidance to death, check the latest travel news and advisories with current government warnings if you are heading to the area for the history of explosions. Travelling to the Western Sahara region of Morocco is not advised due to the presence of landmines. Though amidst all the fuss; Moroccan adventure caravan tour, North morocco plus Fez Escape tour, Moroccan adventure holiday and self drive tours to the southern coast of Morocco can be a boon to an adventurous mind. Morocco is enlightened with such undoubtedly splendid pride and vastness available in resources to fulfill the lavish hunger for adventure, food and life. It can surely be an obsession that would make one smile with an inspiration to give.

My Moroccan Adventure - How I Fell in Love in Morocco

My Moroccan adventure started out as a man in search of love. My friends and family have a hard time understanding the lengths to which I will go in my search for the ideal mate. It all started in May of 2006 when I broke up with my ex-wife. This was the second time we had split up in 2 years. However, this time was different and I just felt the need to move on so I began my search during this separation where else but the internet. And that is where I meet Hajar. In my first communication with hajar she did something that I really liked and appreciated, she gave me her phone number. I really like phone conversation and believe it or not I didn't even add text messaging to my phone until 2010.

I remember the first phone call and she said to me that she was in the car and could I call her later. At that moment I could not imagine her in the car or what type of car she was in etc. But after my first trip to Morocco I could imagine her in the car and I could remember clearly some of our very special moments together in the car.

I meet Hajar in the summer of 2006 and at that point in my marriage it looked as though we were definitely headed for a divorce. I spoke with Hajar quite often throughout that summer and got to know her very well. I don't remember exactly when but at some point in the fall of 2006 I made arrangements to visit Hajar for the first time right after the Christmas holidays. It was around this time that I decided that I needed to file for a divorce. I hold already told Hajar that I was still married and she was very understanding and still wanted me to come and meet her and her family.

So off I went and this is where my Moroccan adventure begins. I flew out of JFK with a small layover in Amsterdam. The cost of a coach flight from the New York Metro area ranges from $800.00-$1200.00 depending upon what time of year you travel so check the internet for the best prices from your area. Our services include an English speaking tour guide as well as food, lodging and transportation. Prices vary depending upon your taste. See our web page located below.

Now let's continue. I remember landing in Casa Blanca and just being overtaken by fear. My friends and family had told me that I was crazy for traveling oversees to meet a woman. After all couldn't I find a decent woman right here in the US. And what if they were right and then I really began to have doubts. I mean I didn't know Hajar or her family and I was about to get off the plane and enter a country that I was unfamiliar with and I couldn't even speak the language. But it was too late for all of that now so I de-boarded the plane and let my adventure begin.

Hajar was waiting there for me at the airport with her father. I didn't know what our plans were but I would soon find out. The airport at Casa Blanca has a train that links directly to it from the city so we purchased our tickets and boarded the train to head off to our destination. We were on our way to Mirit which at this point I was unaware of. Morocco is a Muslim country and I am Muslim. However, I am an American Muslim and I am not accustomed to the entire country shutting down for the EID. So as I would find out we were in a mad race to get back to Mirit which was 6 hours away.

The train ride from the airport at Casa Blanca to the city of Casa Blanca is about 45 minutes. From there we would catch a train to Meknes which is about 3 hrs away. The train ride was pleasant and we were both happy to finally meet. When we got off of the train in the city of Meknes we walked outside of the station which appeared to me to be dark and desolate. Her father stepped away leaving us alone for what seemed like an eternity and at that moment fear overtook me and I realized that if these people had malice in their hearts and some sort of sinister plan in mind then this would be their perfect opportunity. Upon her father's return she looked at me and translated these exact words-My father has found a car to take us to Mirit and he says that you look Moroccan so don't speak because if you do they'll know you're a foreigner and they'll want more money. All three of us entered the back seat of an older Mercedes Benz sedan diesel and Hajar was in the middle. A short time into the ride Hajar tapped her shoulder giving me a signal to rest my head on her shoulder which I gladly obliged and it was my first joyous ride in the car with Hajar.

Once we arrived at the house in Mirit I felt completely safe and was asked if I wanted to shower which of course I did since I had been traveling for more than 36 hours. After I changed we sat down for a meal, chicken taijin, oh how I can taste the food as I write these words. In Moroccan culture it is customary to eat a communal dish and for me it was a great experience. It was that night that I meet her brother Ashrof who spoke perfect English to my pleasant surprise. I spent the next 3 days enjoying the EID feast and I even had the opportunity to slaughter a lamb. My host family was very hospitable and I found the Moroccan people to be very hospitable in general. When I left Morocco after that first trip I couldn't wait to return.

Air Arabia Flight Aims to Become One of the Best LCC in the World

With Middle Eastern countries emerging as major industrial, technological and tourism centres, people have started visiting them for work and pleasure. This has lead to an increase in the number of airlines connecting these locations. With this rise in air traffic inflow, international flight ticket booking has witnessed a major increase on these routes. As a direct impact of this boost, a number of airlines have started operating their aircraft in and around this region. These carriers primarily focus on connecting Arab nations with the rest of the world. One such airline, in this respect, is Air Arabia, which was the first low-cost carrier, or LCC, to start its services in the Middle East.

Introducing Low-cost Model to Arab World

This airline commenced its services in October 2003 with flights to destinations in South and Central Asia, North Africa, Europe and Middle East. Introduction of this low-cost model in this region received an overwhelming response from passengers and led to a rise in tourist influx. This carrier now flies to several destinations across the world from its hubs at Morocco and Alexandria Airport in Egypt and Sharjah International Airport and Mohamed V International Airport in Casablanca.

The concept of low-cost model primarily involves reduction in the cost of flying by employing some smart tactics, which include use of light-weight flights and change of airbase to economically viable location. Such carriers can afford to provide its passengers reduced ticket prices as compared to other full fledged airlines. This result is quite evident in the Air Arabia flight ticket rates, which are often seen to be the lowest among its contemporaries.

Facilities of Air Arabia

Air Arabia aspires to provide the best of travel rates, combined together with exceptional in-flight services. The carrier offers many online facilities, such as ticket booking and check-in, information regarding flight status, seat availability and baggage allowance, which are displayed on most of the travel portals. These websites are updated round the clock to keep passengers updated with the latest changes and developments and also allows them to check-in using the internet, thus helping them save their valuable time. Air Arabia online booking can also be done conveniently through these online portals with minimal requirements like a valid e-mail ID and credit or debit card details.

The gradual increase in flight bookings reflects the level of customer satisfaction garnered by this carrier. This has given a tremendous boost to the business of Air Arabia, resulting in the upsurge of its destinations. The airline is also looking forward to increase the size of its fleet, which till now comprised Airbus A320 aircraft. Moreover, It is planning to open a fourth hub to manage the increasing demand of its customers. With these latest developments in recent times, this low-cost carrier is gradually moving towards fulfilling its aim to become one of the most favoured airlines across the globe.

Air Arabia flight is best option when you are looking for low cost airlines for International flight ticket booking. Air Arabia offers many online facilities and ticket booking offers with special price from time to time. To avail those discounts and offers you have to plan your travel in advance before sufficient time that I can suggest as a air travel guide.

Travel to Morocco for Exciting Holidays Abroad

Morocco is a wonderful Country with some majestic mountain ranges, great coastline and some

of the most intriguing Cities on the Continent. Many travellers end up in the Country to

sample life in the famous Cities of Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat and most are not

disappointed by what they find. The people are very friendly as well and the infrastructure

is very good for the region and it is getting better with the current Government aiming to

increase tourist numbers to the Country.

The best time to visit Morocco is during the spring and autumn when it is cooler and more

comfortable. The summer can be a good time to visit the coastal areas, but the interior of

the country will be uncomfortably hot. The winter can get quite cold in the north though the

further south you go, the days will get warmer, however, night time will still be chilly.

Health wise - There is a small risk from Malaria in the extreme south of the Country, but

many do not believe it is worth the effort of taking anti-malarial medication. Consult your

doctor before coming to this conclusion, it is better to be safe than sorry! Altitude

sickness can occur in the mountains and you should be prepared for this. The medical

services in Morocco are average and serious injuries and illness may lead to evacuation by

air to Spain.

Visas and Documents - Most visitors to Morocco will be able to visit the Country without a

visa and be able to stay for up to three months on arrival. Israeli citizens will have to

apply for a month long visa before departure. If you are coming from a country or region

that is affected by yellow fever or cholera you will need to prove that you have been

vaccinated, most clinics or doctors issue certificates with the vaccination.

Cost - Morocco is relatively inexpensive to travel around, though the popular tourist

destinations like Casablanca and Marrakech will be slightly more expensive. A budget of $25

a day should suffice, if you are not bothered about eating in restaurants and don't mind

staying in guesthouses. Travel around the country is good value, but you should be careful

when dealing with taxi drivers, especially in tourist hotspots.

The Sights - There are so many things to see and experience in this wonderful Country and the

fact is that you will not have the time to visit them all and all though this is a shame,

remember it is important to enjoy this visit and that you can visit again in the future.

Obviously, some of the most well known attractions of the Country are some of the best with

the Imperial Cities of Fez, Meknes, Marrakech and Casablanca, all amazing destinations with

plenty to do and see. Walking through the bazaars and backstreets has got to be one of the

highlights of visiting Morocco - Morocco also has some splendid hiking opportunities, with the most popular being the High Atlas with the impressive Jebel Toubkal. What should be remembered is that there are alternatives to this popular destination, with the Anti Atlas to the south and the rarely

visited and wilder Rif Mountains near Tangiers and Chefchaouen.

The mighty ruins of Volubulis are the largest Roman remains in Morocco and it is now a World

Heritage listed site. It is one of many ruins across the north of the Country, but none are

in the magnitude of this site which lies close to Meknes.

While some may not consider it a highlight, travelling down the Western Sahara to Mauritania

is an adventure and a must for many overland travellers making their way to West Africa. It

may be an uncomfortable ride, but think of all the fabulous anecdotes you can tell your

You Can Fly From the UK to Marrakech If You Don't Want to Drive

Those who are planning a vacation to the United Kingdom are going to appreciate the fact that they can get from the UK to Marrakech without breaking the bank. There are two different types of flights that are offered from the United Kingdom. The first are the commercial flights and the second are charter flights. Both offer positive and negative aspects for their own means of flying to Marrakech from the UK.

Charter Flights

A charter flight is a very good option as it can save a family a good deal of money. There are not going to be many commercial flights that are going to be as cheap as a charter flight. These charters are sold as a package deal so it there is the added bonus of not having to worry about accommodations or sight-seeing trips as these are all going to be included in the package.

If you are just looking for a cheap flight without the package, you are going to need to purchase your flight from the UK as these seats are only sold after the packages have been filled. This is the only downside to flying through a charter flight company. It is really not a down side but it can leave the flight plans up in the air before you travel to the UK.

Do not look for all the bells and whistles that you would get on a commercial flight. The reason these seats come at a discount is because they do not offer any extras. You are paying for a flight and only a flight. It is also recommended that you bring your own snacks and drinks for the time you are going to be flying.

Commercial Flights

Many of the major commercial airlines in the United Kingdom offer flights to Marrakech. These flights are also cheap and many business class flights can be had for just over one hundred English pounds which is roughly two hundred dollars. This price can vary depending on the exchange rate when the flight is purchased. Those who want to fly commercially to Marrakech from the UK, then you should find out what the exchange rate is try to book it when the rate is best for the US dollar.

Coach flights are offered at a lower rate, but with the cost and comfort of business class flights, many are going to feel that business class is the better option. Those on a tight budget are going to want to look at the coach fares to see if they are more affordable than the business class flights are going to be. If you are looking for a package deal, you do not have to stick with the charter flights as there are many packages available from commercial airlines as well.

If you want to expand your family's vacation to include Africa, then Morocco is the best option. There are many flights daily that leave the UK and go directly to Marrakech. This is a beautiful country with loads of history that you can become a part of with one of these types of flights.

If you're planning a trip to Morocco and you are looking for a fantastic place to stay, consider Marrakech Riad. They have fabulous Marrakech accommodation [http://www.marrakech-riad.co.uk/reservations.php] and pleasant, helpful staff to ensure your stay is the best imaginable.

Surf's Up Morocco - Making Waves in Africa

The legendary surf spots of Tahiti, Hawaii and Fiji are known for firing up the imagination of salty surf dogs around the world, but few amateur surfers will ever get to sample their waves. These places really only belong in surf magazine and videos and are the territory of pro surfers on big sponsor budgets, and not the sort of place the average weekend surfer from the UK could afford.

However, there is a land that offers inexpensive living, uncrowned beaches and breaks, consistent surf not to mention great food and friendly locals, and all only a short flight from the UK. It's name? Morocco.

Sat on the very north of the mighty African continent, yet just a short boat ride from the British Territory of Gibraltar, Morocco has some 3500km of coastline with offer surfers a huge choice of breaks. American and Australian surfers were responsible for bringing the sport to Moroccan shores in the 1970s, but it is now largely Europeans looking to escape the cold winter climates and the growing leagues of local Moroccans, who dominate the waves.

There are hundreds of secret spots all down the coast, but some of the better known areas include Banana beach - ideal for beginners; Panaromas - a right hand point break, but with a strong rip current; Hash Point - another right hand point with easy entry from a small sandy beach, Anchor point - a favourite with the locals meaning it can get crowded, and is therefore best suited to intermediate or expert surfers only and Killer Point - named after the fact that occasionally killer whales can be seen there, and is renowned for being one of the best waves in the area. It requires a 20 minute paddle out to reach the break, so you'll need to be fit to make it, but once you do, you'll be able to enjoy a very long right hander, with waves up to 12 feet in height.

Accommodation in Morocco is available in the form of small hotels, holiday villas or dorm-style hostels, which can be found all long the coastline. Many are specially geared towards surfers, offering secure board storage, wet suit hire and chill out zones.

Western surfers should keep an eye on their bags, as some of the locals will be only too happy to offer their 'baggage carrying' services, in return for a few dollars, especially in busy places like airports and train stations. However, the locals are generally warm, friendly and welcoming.

With little in the way of localism to worry about, more and more European surfers are heading

How to Get to Southern Africa From All the Major Continents

No matter which part of the world you are from, there is bound to be a fairly easy way for you to get to the part of Africa you wish to travel. You can fly from most major ports into South Africa with SAA. From there, you can get a connecting route to almost anywhere in Africa you please.

Other major airlines from Europe, Australia and America frequently have flights to South Africa. British Airways, Lufthansa and KLM are of the most frequent European Airlines. Emirates Airline has regular flights from the East.

The Emirates flight from Johannesburg via Dubai to London is sometimes a cheaper option than any of the direct airlines. Even though Australia is literally next to South Africa many times the Johannesburg, Dubai connections to Australia are the cheapest.

If there are no direct flights from your own country to the African country you are visiting, then you will need to get a connecting flight from OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg.

There are many internal flights available in Africa via the national airlines of the various countries.

There are a few South African airlines which offer cheap flights between the major cities of Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Their air crafts are most probably the ugliest on the tarmac but they get the job done and you won't ever get onto the wrong plane. Mango is very distinctly orange, the entire plane is orange. 1Time looks like a dirty red spot and Kulula a bright dark green overgrown bug.

The very adventurous might attempt driving from Europe through Africa. A ferry crossing from Spain will take you into Morocco. This is however not advisable for everybody. These kinds of trips require extreme planning.

Road networks in Africa are from average to bad to non-existent in certain places. Hospitals and medical services are few and far apart and not all African countries are safe to drive in if you are not an expert on schemes and bribery.

The Italian cruise liner, the MSC Melody, do some trips between Durban on the East Coast of Africa and Genoa in Italy. After the recent attack on this liner by pirates from Somalia this service might now be in jeopardy.

You can take a cruise on a boat around the islands of the Indian ocean off the coast of Durban. You could also visit Mauritius and the islands of Mozambique.

The ideal for any traveler coming to the Southern part of Africa will be to start the trip in South Africa and from there travel to the other African countries.

Where is Malaga Airport?

Of course the white sandy beaches, guaranteed good weather and ease of access to the Costa del Sol all make Malaga a perfect destination for arrival in Spain; but there's far more to Malaga and the Costa del Sol than meets the eye.

Malaga airport lies 8 kilometers to the South west of Malaga city in the direction of Guadalmar.

It's the regional capital of an area of Spain called the Costa del Sol. Synonymous with summer beach vacations the Costa del Sol is a holiday destination for millions of Brits every year.

Malaga's location on the south Mediterranean coast of Spain means it experiences nearly year round sunshine. The landscape surrounding Malaga looks more North African than European, desert like rolling hills and dunes and white beaches are all features of this Spanish area because they share a very similar weather pattern to that of Northern Africa.

Malaga holds a useful location on the Southern coast of Spain for travel to Northern Africa The town came into existence as a useful trading point for the Phoenicians, even today it's still a very important strategically placed port. And should you need to travel on from here daily ferries can take you directly to Melilla in Morocco.

Malaga began life as a Phoenician colony it was later ruled by the ancient Greeks. Malaga's history then played into the hands of the Visigoths, after that the Arabs controlled the city, like much of Spain the Moorish influences can still be seen in artworks and architecture, they ruled successfully until they were over thrown by Christians towards the end of the 15th Century. This colorful history lends Malaga a very interesting archaeological past. Many important finds can be found in museums which document these interesting cultures. The greatest remnants of Moorish control still visible today are the wonderful remains of Muslim palaces in the Alcazaba fortress. Steep winding paths and tiered courtyards display these beautiful Moorish styles fantastically.

Malaga airport is very well served by fast modern well kept roads. This makes Malaga a superb destination to arrive at when you are visiting this region of Spain. the A7 coastal road links to the AP7 Autopisa del Sol Motorway; which means you should have no problem in getting to destinations like Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella, Granada or even out to Gibralta in your hire car. The coastal A-7 is the old N-340 road it takes a fantastic route clinging to the coast, it is well worth a drive to enjoy the stunning views and explore new beaches.

Malaga has a fantastic cultural and historic background; in 2004 the city council in Malaga realized they had a unique offering that they could use to promote the city. They requested to be placed in the bid for the 2016 European culture capital, and have been busily working ever since to improve their chances of winning this award. Museums, galleries, restoration projects and theatres have been popping up all over the place in expectation of the grant.

The Coast of the Costa del Sol boasts many world class golf courses; in fact this is the highest concentration of courses in one location in the world. It's often referred to as the 'Costa del Golf.' For families visiting this area there's more going on than you will ever need to keep you entertained during a holiday. There are beautiful endless white beaches, theme parks, water parks, safari parks and activities like go-karting, at the same time for a slightly more cultured moment the Costa del Sol also has plenty to keep any art or history aficionado happy.

Malaga Airport is by far the best airport to use if you are intending to visit the Costa del Sol, a hire car here makes exploring this beautiful area a possibility. To escape the crowds and busy tourist areas it really is worth taking a little road trip adventure.

A Car Hire Malaga is the perfect way to explore the region. With so many interesting places to discover a Car Hire Spain is the recommended and most cost effective transport option.

The culture of Morocco

The Kingdom of Morocco is the most westerly of the North African countries known as the Maghreb - the "Arab West". It has Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, a rugged mountain interior and a history of independence not shared by its neighbours.

Its rich culture is a blend of Arab, Berber, European and African influences.

Morocco was a French protectorate from 1912 to 1956, when Sultan Mohammed became king. He was succeeded in 1961 by his son, Hassan II, who ruled for 38 years and played a prominent role in the search for peace in the Middle East.

He also ruthlessly suppressed domestic opposition. A truth commission set up to investigate human rights violations during his reign confirmed nearly 10,000 cases, ranging from death in detention to forced exile.

Hassan's son and successor in 1999, Mohammed VI, is a cautious moderniser who has introduced some economic and social liberalisation. In 2011 he revised the constitution in response to "Arab Spring" protests, and appointed a new government in January 2012. Powerful trade unions waited until May to launch mass protests against the authorities' failure to meet democratic and economic expectations.

The status of Western Sahara remains unresolved. Morocco annexed the territory in 1975 and a guerrilla war with Algerian-backed pro-independence forces ended in 1991. UN efforts have failed to break the political deadlock.

To the north, a dispute with Spain in 2002 over the tiny island of Perejil revived the issue of the sovereignty of Melilla and Ceuta. These small enclaves on the Mediterranean coast are surrounded by Morocco and have been administered by Spain for centuries.

Morocco has been given the status of non-Nato ally by Washington, which has praised its support for the US-led war on terror. After deadly suicide bombings in Casablanca in 2003, Morocco launched a crackdown on suspected Islamic militants.

Festivals in Morocco

Knowing when to be in Morocco is part of the fun of booking your trip. There are a number of Muslim and national festivals held throughout the year, and when you travel to Morocco, you may want to consider booking your vacation in conjunction with one of these events. In fact, almost every month of the year features at least one festival you can attend. The festivals are based on the lunar calendar rather than the western calendar so you will need to check with the Morocco tourism board before you book your flight if there is a specific festival you want to see.

In January, there are two festivals: New Years Day and Independence Celebration. New Years Day is a western celebration not unlike many held around the world. Independence Celebration is secular and is only one of five held throughout the year.

February is the celebration of Tafraoute and Aid Al Adha. Tafraoute celebrates the end of the winter rains found in the lower elevations of Morocco. The rains are helpful to the crops, but Moroccans also feel a celebration for the upcoming season is necessary. Aid Al Adha or A'd el-Khebir is a commemoration festival of Abraham's sacrifice. This festival is fun to watch, but you will not be able to participate in much of it.

March and April have four celebrations: Beni Mellal, Fatih Mouharam, Ashura, and Aid el Arch. Beni Mellal celebrates the cotton harvest. Fatih Mouharam is the Islamic new year celebration. Ashura is a day of tithing celebrated by certain local groups only. Aid el Arch is a celebration to honor the coronation of King Mohammed VI.

If you visit Morocco in May, expect to find Moulay Bousselham, Berkane, El Kelia des Mgouna, Labor Day, Id el Mouloud, and Ben Aissa Moussem festivals. El Kelia des Mgouna is also known as the Rose Festival and is held to celebrate the new crops. It is one of the most popular celebrations that Westerners enjoy attending.

June is the month of the Music Festival, Independence Day, Goulimine, Tan Tan and Gnaoua Festival. The Music Festival is held in Fez, and hundreds of musicians from around the world come to celebrate music and different musical traditions. It is a sharing of cultures and traditions, and visitors leave with a new understanding of what music is in other parts of the world.

July festivals include Marrakesh Popular Arts Festival, Tetouan, Sefrou Cherry Harvest, Al Hoceima Sea Harvest, and Celebration of the Throne. Marrakesh Popular Arts Festival depicts traditional Moroccan folklore through performances, theater, music and other art forms.

The Asilah Arts Festival, Celebration of the Young, Setti Fatma, Sefrou Moussem, El Jadida, Tiznit, Immouzeer du Kandar, and Immouzer des Ida Outanane festivals are held in August. Many of these festivals are popular celebrations of Moussem.

Chechaouen and Moulay Idriss Zerhoun host their Mouseem Festivals in September. September is also when Imichil is held; this marriage festival is held in the Atlas Mountains. It offers traditional marriage customs and costumes for visitors to enjoy.

September has only one festival called the Date Festival, which is held in Erfoud. November marks Ramadan, Independence Day, Eid al Fitr, and the Harvest Festival of Erfoud. December holds Rafsae and Hajj Day. Not all of these festivals are popular among Western visitors; however, if you are there when one of these festivals is occurring, you will likely encounter music, fireworks, costumes and other traditions. Any religious festivals should not be interrupted, but observed quietly.

Marrakesh, the red city, is the former imperial city of Morocco. The city has two parts, an older fortified city- Medina and the adjacent modern city- Gueliz or Ville Nouvelle. Both the cities present contrasting lifestyles to the outside world. Medina has long and narrow streets with traditional shops full of life and character. On the contrary, Gueliz has a modernistic outlook with fast food chains, brand stores, fantastic homes and modern hotels.

Having the population of 1,070,838, the city is served by Menara international airport. Direct flights to Marrakesh come from London or Paris, however, from all other parts of the world flights land in Casablanca from where they depart for Marrakech. Several airlines including Ryanair, Royal air Maroc and Thompson airways operate from the city.

Royal air Maroc provides the cheapest airfares from any part of the world to Marrakech. It offers extremely cheap flights from UK to Marrakesh.

The city is served by train, bus and cabs. Travellers can hang around to see marvelous places and bueatiful Houses (old grand houses converted into hotels and inns). Most famous places of Marrakech include Djemaa El-Fna, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Majorelle Gardens, Majorelle Gardens, El Bahia Palace, Riad Laksiba, Angsana Riads Collection Morocco. However, if someone is on a budget travel, discount hotels that can be stayed in, are Hotel Ali, Hotel Atlas, Hotel Central Palace, Hotel Imouzzer, Hotel Ibis, Moroccan House Hotel, and Villa DAR EL KANOUN.

Major things to be done while being in Marrakech include experiencing and staying in Riads, exploring souks (the markets in Medina), hammams, buying traditional spices and stuff from local markets. If you plan to eat at Djemaa El-Fna, eat like locals at the stalls in the square. All of them are perfectly safe to eat and have been there for quite a long period of time.

Safety in Marrakesh is not a problem. It can be regarded as a safe city generally; however, being watchful about your surroundings is advised. While being in the city, there is a rare chance of violent crimes but your money can be stolen so keep it close and hidden. Be careful about being drugged, check official badge of the guides and if you want to be unidentified, contact a shopkeeper to dress you up in a traditional way.

Taking Trekking Tours in Morocco

All regions of Morocco can be trekked if you want adventure. Unfortunately, some regions of Morocco require summer trekking experiences. Jbel Toubkal is the highest mountain peak in the Atlas Mountains. The higher elevations experience heavy snow fall during winter. It can also turn very cold up there during the evenings. For this reason Morocco tours will hike the mountain at certain parts of the year.

This is only a concern for individuals wanting the ultimate adventure. Anyone who is visiting Morocco to soak up culture can find Morocco trekking all year. These types of tours can be day hikes, overnight treks, and even a few days out in the mountainous regions of the country.

One of the easiest trekking experiences to have is the Ourika Valley. This hike is three hours of walking, with three hours of driving. You will visit Berber villages, the salt mines, and a beautiful waterfall in the High Atlas Mountains. The valley is lush with plants and animals. If you are lucky you may even see a Barbary Monkey on the trek.

For anyone wanting a more involved High Atlas trekking sojourn Imi Ourlad to Imlil may be the right tour. This trekking High Atlas Mountains tour lasts for three days with four to five hours of trekking a day. Like many of the trekking excursions you will begin in Marrakesh and drive to Imi Ourlad before starting the hike up into the valleys and gorges of the regions. From Imi Ourlad it is possible to reach Tizi Nlbour at 1600 meters. This area provides a guest house for lunch called Imsker. Once you have lunch with a beautiful view as a compliment, you will move on to Ait Aisa. Ait Aisa is at 1400 meters. It is a village, with a very long history. The traditions of the area help you immerse yourself in the culture of the region.

The next day you move on to Imnan Valley, Arg, Amssakrou, Ikiss, and then stop in Tinghrinn. All the while you are on this trip look out for the natural wildlife of the area. Tinghrinn is at 2100 meters. The last day takes you back down the High Atlas Mountains and to Marrakesh. All along the way you will spot waterfalls, streams, and running rivers teaming with the runoff from higher elevations. Whether you want a day hike or several days to experience Morocco the options are there for you.

Marokkaanse huis dat Ideeën verfraait

Tired of looking at the same bedroom, same dining room and same living room again and again? Then it's time for a change. This time to not just change the furniture or the color of your home, rather go for a completely different look. Decorating your home in Moroccan style is the latest trend these days. Morocco is like a melting pot of different cultures and styles and so the Moroccan style decor will have some of the features of every culture and style. One can even see hints of Arabic style in it.

Moroccan home decor can be classified into two types - urban Moroccan decor and rural Moroccan decor. The urban décor involves the use of ceramics, metal, wood and leather. On the other hand, the rural decor has more of the Middle Eastern influence, with an emphasis on the use of rugs, fabrics and embroideries. The best feature of having a Moroccan style decoration is that the objects used in it are usually those that have use in practical life too. Given below are some tips that will help you in decorating your home in the Moroccan style.

Moroccan Style Decorating Ideas

Use of Bright Colors

When decorating your home Moroccan style, make sure to use bright natural colors. The colors like green and blue, found in the sea of the area, and the ones like gold and yellow, found in the surrounding desert, should be used as much as possible. You can combine other colors like vibrant red, orange or purple with blue or gold to create an effervescent ambiance. Feel free to use of vibrant colors such as pink fuchsia, lavender, and orange while keeping the aesthetics in mind.

Bring Nature Home

For creating the tropical atmosphere seen in Morocco, you can make extensive use of plants. The more exotic the plants, the better look they will bring to your house. At the same time, they will also provide you with some greenery in the 'concrete-jungle' world of today. If it is feasible, you can also get textured walls.

Lighting

Lighting plays a very important role in adding that perfect Moroccan flavor look to your home decor. Moroccan light fixtures are totally different from those used in the other parts of the world. Moroccan light fixtures include Moroccan sconces, Moroccan chandeliers, Moroccan lanterns, Moroccan hanging pendants, and Moroccan lamps. A great source for quality handmade Moroccan light fixtures as well as Moorish lighting is a California company called Saint Tropez Boutique that design and handcrafts Moroccan light fixtures in Casablanca, Morocco and exclusively distributes them in the U.S.A. The reason why I like Saint Tropez Boutique because they are unique Moroccan light fixtures designs, plus they handcrafted from top quality Moroccan solid brass that has been carved into refined and intricate patterns. Addition to that Saint Tropez Boutique is the exclusive dealer in the U.S.A that has Moroccan light fixtures pre-wired for the UL-Standard (pre-wired for the U.S Standard wiring). To learn more about Moroccan lighting by Saint Tropez Boutique, please visit them online at: http://www.sainttropezboutique.us

Extensive Use of Textures

Moroccans love extensive use of textures in their home. So, if you want to have a Moroccan style look, rule out too much use of smooth and sleek materials. In fact, the fusion of multiple textures and shapes will be best. You can have darkened wood plank floors, which can be covered with natural fiber rugs of sand-ish color. This will not only add texture to the room, but also provide you with some comfort under the feet. You can also try draping fabric from the ceiling.

Some Other Tips

Colorful mosaic tables not only give a Moroccan feel to your place, but also help to brighten up a dull room. Use of handmade Moroccan tiles will go a long way in creating a Moroccan decor. Use of Moroccan tent as a Moroccan lounge getaway in your own backyard. Use of Moroccan wood lattice screens also known as Jali Screens in your windows doors, kitchen and bath cabinet doors, or even as a room divider wall. Last but not the least, you can buy silk bedcovers or cushion covers, in jewel tones, to create that perfect Moroccan look.
